The Future of the Bolton Over 35s Football League

The Secretary/Referees Secretary (Kevan Stevens) and the Match/Press Secretary (John Riley) of the Bolton Over 35s Football League have both decided to stand down at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 7^th, so volunteers are urgently required to take on these roles.

Their resignations have come following criticism from teams of the League management, citing cancellation and rearrangement of games at short notice and teams being allowed to field under-age players. The critics blame the League Management, but matches have been called off because of Injuries, Stag Parties, Charity Events, Holidays, Christenings, etc. They have not been called off because the League Officials want to mess people about. The critics imply that the League Officials are complicit in teams playing under-age players, but that is not the case. How does the League ensure that all players in a game are actually over 35 years of age? How can they police the situation? Team Managers have this responsibility. 

A recent Email was sent to the Secretary of the former Bolton Sports Federation (Bob Moffat) suggesting that he sorts out the problem, but the sender did not disclose his name or offer to do the job himself.

People are quick to criticise without offering constructive solutions or offering to help. The same officials have been re-elected at AGMs because nobody has come forward to fill the posts.

The opportunity now exists, at the AGM on 7^th June, for enthusiastic new people to fill the posts and revamp the League, otherwise, the League will fold.

If you want the League to continue and you are willing to step in to help manage it, please think carefully and contact the League Chairman (Neil Smith) or Secretary (Kevan Stevens) and offer your services. There are experienced people available to help you and advise you if necessary.

Reminder to all teams
Teams cancelling matches with less than 14 days notice will be fined and have points deducted as per Rule 14.
The following is an extract from the Minutes of the June 2022 Committee Meeting:
"teams voted to enforce the existing rule to fine teams for cancelling games without proper notice as some teams cancelled games for petty reasons at short notice."
